Edmund Munster from Germany takes over the liquorice company “Dusseldorfer Lakritzenwerk” in the year 1900. Then in 1930 Edmund acquired the licence to produce an innovative, fruity chew without gum and made of sugar, syrup and other ingredients. He named it Maoam and during easter 1931 it was launched into the German market as an extremely delicious and highly sought-after speciality candy. These candies were initially available in the flavours of lemon, strawberry, pineapple, orange and raspberry. The company resumed production after the war.
In 1986 the Bonn confectionery producer Haribo acquired the Edmund Munster company and production moved to a modern factory in Neuss. The Haribo group receives the Maoam trademark and all the Maoam packaging received a design update. The Maoam candy and chews became more colourful and tasty.
